Audi's 2017 A3 entry luxury car will arrive with several technology upgrades, including the virtual cockpit and Multi Media Interface (MMI) touch interface that was added to the next-generation Q7 SUV and A4 sedan.
The A3, which entered its third generation with the 2013 model year, joins the A4 as the most adopted by commercial fleets. The new technology features will be available on the A3 sedan, A3 Cabriolet, A3 Sportback e-tron, and S3 models. The models will continue to be powered by the 2.0L TFSI four-cylinder with quattro all-wheel drive that's paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Audi's virtual cockpit displays large Google Map images on a 12.3-inch TFT screen in the instrument cluster, which can show a large speedometer and tachometer or minimize the gauges.
The MMI touch interface supports Apple CarPlay and Google's Android Auto, along with the Audi Connect system that provides news, weather, fuel prices, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Google Earth mapping through built-in AT&T 4G LTE functionality. The MMI touch dial also supports the latest version of handwriting recognition.
