Ford will offer three diesel engine power ratings with the 6.7L Power Stroke V-8 turbo diesel on its next-gen F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks when they arrive for the 2016 model year.
Fleet customers will be able to choose from three engine ratings offering 270 horsepower with 675 lb.-ft. torque, 300 hp with 700 lb.-ft. torque, and 330 hp with 725 lb.-ft. torque.
"While other medium-duty truck manufacturers restrict top horsepower and torque ratings to certain applications, such as emergency services, the all-new F-650/F-750 will arrive with no vocational restrictions," said John Ruppert, Ford's general manager of commercial vehicle sales and marketing.
The Power Stroke diesel will be paired with a commercial-grade six-speed TorqShift HD automatic transmission that has been developed and tested for medium-duty applications, according to Ford. The powertrain offers a five-year/250,000-mile limited warranty.
Ford claims its the only medium-duty truck manufacturer that designs and builds its own diesel engine and transmission combination.
"Engineering the truck and powertrain together is the best way to deliver a great product for the customer," said John Davis, Ford's commercial vehicle chief nameplate engineer.
In addition to its Power Stroke diesel, Ford offers a gasoline-powered 6.8L gasoline-powered V-10 that can be factory-prepped for conversion to compressed natural gas or liquid propane gas.
The 2016 F-650/F-750 is offered in Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab styles and in straight frame, dock height and an all-new dedicated tractor model for heavy towing applications. The new medium-duty truck lineup will be available in spring 2015.
