DEARBORN, MI — Mercury has introduced a re-styled 2006 Mercury Mountaineer and an all-new 2006 Mercury Milan. While the Milan is designed to be the “youngest” Mercury vehicle, targeting so-called “Gen-X” customers between 26 and 35 years of age, the Mountaineer was redesigned to fight increasing competition in the mid-size SUV segment. The Milan has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $18,995; Milan models equipped with a V-6 engine and class-leading, six-speed, automatic transmission will begin at $21,995. All Milan models come with a number of standard features, including a premium audio system with an AM/FM single CD/MP3 player, six-way power driver’s seat with manual lumbar, 16-inch wheels, and remote keyless entry. The Mountaineer includes new safety technologies, powertrain performance improvements, a restyled interior, and several exterior design changes. Other Mountaineer highlights for 2006 include a new 4.6L, three-valve V-8 engine that delivers a 53 horsepower improvement (292 hp) over the two-valve V-8 it replaces. Inside, the Mountaineer makeover begins in the front row with a new instrument panel and satin aluminum accents throughout the cabin.
