Volvo Introduces All-New 2007 S80 Luxury Sedan
Volvo showcases the all-new 2007 S80 luxury sedan — complete with collision and blind-spot warning systems and adaptive cruise control — to fleet customers at its Las Vegas Fleet Meeting last December.

Blending functionality, ergonomics, advanced safety technology, and high performance, the all-new 2007 S80 luxury sedan touts Volvo’s exotic “Scandinavian Design” architecture, both inside and out.
Introduced at the Las Vegas Fleet Meeting last December, commercial fleet managers were given the opportunity to take the S80 for a spin around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, comparing the sedan’s performance and handling to its luxury-class competitors. Fleet managers also participated in collision mitigation system demonstrations and autocross and Ride ‘n Drive events.
“We have several current S60 and S80 drivers who I’m sure will go with the new vehicle when the time comes. It was nice to see it up against the luxury competition,” said Debbie Mize, fleet/relocations manager, Hallmark Cards, Inc.
Reputation for Advanced Safety
Known for modern safety technology, Volvo’s preventive and protective safety features include a new side airbag with dual-chamber construction for enhanced hip and chest protection. The S80 also features the next generation of WHIPS rear-impact protection.
“We have a Safe Driver Award program and this vehicle fits nicely,” said Marilyn Mansell, sales fleet administrator, Amgen USA, Inc.
Adaptive cruise control, optional on all S80s, uses a radar sensor to measure vehicle distance ahead and automatically adjust vehicle speed. Collision warning with brake support works in conjunction with the adaptive cruise control system by priming the brakes, preparing for the driver to apply full brake force, if necessary.
Two Powertrain Options
A 3.2L compact I-6 engine, providing 235 hp and achieving 19 / 28 mpg city / highway, appears for the first time in a Volvo sedan. A six-speed automatic Geartronic transmission is standard on both the S80 3.2 FWD and 4.4L S80 V-8 electronically controlled AWD sedans. Volvo’s first V-8-powered sedan, the S80 V-8 provides 311 horsepower and can achieve up to 17 / 25 mpg city / highway.
Luxurious Interior
Comfort amenities include ventilated front seats and heated seats in the front and rear and an upgraded navigation system.
“The controls were easy to understand,” said Dick Prettyman, senior fleet administrator, Cephalon, Inc. “I didn’t have to take my eyes off the road to use the navigation system and the blind-spot warning system and adaptive cruise control with collision-warning perform without being intrusive.”
The S80 also offers ample legroom in both front and rear seats and 14.9 cu. ft. of trunk volume. MSRP starts at $38,705.
“The S80 has thoughtful construction — performance and safety — elegant design, and has a comfortable and roomy interior,” noted Jim McCarthy, director of vehicle management services, Siemens Shared Services.
