TRUCK LEASING WILL GROW . . .throughout the'8Os at twice the growth rate of the truck market, according to International Resource Development. Specialized truck leasing companies, however, will offer increasingly comprehensive packages of services to lessees. Service packages will be effective in masking the true finance cost of the vehicle and its competitive imbalance with bank leasing. The ability to service nationwide accounts, according to this study, will put the larger leasing companies in a very strong position, offering large private fleets the extensive service support that they need.

GSA REDUCES LEASE RATES . . .and this is the first instance of passing along cost savings, with the government's General Services Administration hoping to have additional reductions before the end of the fiscal year. September SO. The across-the-board rollback is $6 per month for each of some 90.000 leased vehicles, according to Automotive News' reports. The monthly charge for a subcompact sedan will drop from $117 to $111. The savings for the Defense Department alone will total nearly $1 million over the rest of this fiscal year alone. Streamlined procedures enabling the GSA to buy vehicles when market conditions are best, replacing vehicles leased from commercial firms with government- owned ones and using capital saved on other vehicles were cited as reasons for the money-savings.
