The 2005 Chevrolet Kodiak/GMC TopKick C4500/C5500 offers fleet managers a solid medium-duty commercial truck with the versatility of a pickup truck. The pickup box for the C4500/C5500 model is manufactured and installed through a partnership between General Motors (GM) and Monroe Truck Equipment, Inc. (MTE)

The truck’s design is ideal for agriculture, construction, and government fleet applications. It is constructed to handle heavy payloads, and the cab can carry six passengers. With a towing capacity of 24,000-26,000 lbs., the truck’s weight and tow ratings go beyond standard pickup trucks, but it can also match the maneuverability and practicality of Class 1-3 pickup models.

The Kodiak/TopKick starts out in the factory as a basic crew cab and chassis and is shipped directly to MTE where the pickup box and accessories are added.

The Kodiak/TopKick C4500/C5500 features an eight-foot steel dual pickup box and tailgate, with custom composite side panels and protective Rhino interior lining. Other features are the powertrain options - a standard Duramax diesel engine or an optional 8.1L gasoline engine with an Allison transmission.

Optional equipment includes:

• MTE 3-inch polished stainless steel step bars custom-designed to extend for access to the pickup box.

• Pace Edwards retractable tonneau cover featuring locking capabilities and switchable bed light.

• Back-country bed rails constructed of 1-inch diameter stainless steel with a no-drill stake pocket mounting.

• Transfer flow fuel tank automatically transfers fuel to truck fuel tanks, increasing total capacity from 40 gallons to 90 gallons. The 2005-model Kodiak/TopKick features several enhancements, including:

• A 60-gallon fuel tank available on additional C5V042 wheelbases.

• A 213.5-inch wheelbase has been released for 19,500 lbs. GVWR and above on C5V042, and a 233-inch wheelbase for 19,500 lbs. GVWR.

• A new 32-gallon aft-axle fuel tank for 4x4 dump truck or rollback models.

• Vortec 8100/Duramax 6600 powertrains.
