The Chevrolet Impala

The four-door, six-passenger 2000-model Chevrolet Impala sedan will be available this fall. The Impala is a front-wheel-drive car, built on a highly modified and expanded version of the Lumina platform. It will be powered by a base 3400 V-6 or available with an optional 3800 V-6 engine and will offer full-function traction control. Another new feature for the 2000 Impala is its tire inflation monitoring system, which works in conjunction with ABS to detect when a tire is not revolving at the same speed as others.

The Chevrolet Cavalier

Chevrolet unveiled its 2000 Cavalier at the Dallas Auto Show. The exterior has been freshened, new colors are available, and there’s a redesigned instrument panel. It is also available as a coupe.

The Volvo S-40

The new Volvo S40 will be introduced during the 4th Quarter of 1999 as a 2000 model. It is currently on sale in Europe. It also comes in a wagon version called the V40. Both the sedan and wagon will be powered by a four-cylinder, 16-valve engine.

The Mercury Sable

The redesign of the 2000 Sable is the third for the car line. The 2000 Sable offers several safety features, including Ford’s Advanced Restraint System. Also, Sable offers energy-absorbing trim panels and a standard equipment internal truck release should someone become trapped in the trunk. The Sable and the Taurus are also the first cars in North America to offer optional power adjustable brake and accelerator pedals allowing drivers of smaller stature to move the pedals toward their feet rather than moving the seat uncomfortably and dangerously close to the steering wheel. Plus, the Sable powertrain meets federal low-emission vehicle standards in California and the 13 Northeast states.

The Nissan Maxima

The all-new fifth generation Maxima is powered by a 3.0L V-6 engine that produces 222 horsepower. The Maxima rides on a 108-inch wheelbase with an overall length of 190 inches. Styling is aerodynamic with a sharply raked windshield.

The Ford Focus

Focus, Ford’s new subcompact, is built on an all-new platform. It has a spacious interior and new suspension. Ford will also continue to offer the Escort for the 2000-model year. The 2000 Escort will be available in a sedan and the ZX2 sport coupe.

The Subaru Legacy

The new grille and headlights help distinguish the Legacy GT from previous models. The grille masks a fresh air intake system that helps the 2.5L SOHC boxer engine develop more usable torque in the everyday driving range. A newly designed multi-link rear suspension system aids in increasing cornering forces while also increasing usable cargo space.

The Honda VV

The Honda VV hybrid was shown at the Detroit Auto Show. It is a gasoline-powered vehicle with an electric motor assist. It meets ultra-low-emission vehicle (ULEV) levels. It goes on sale in December 1999 as a 2000 model in all 50 states. Honda is looking to produce 5,000 hybrids for worldwide sale.

The Lincoln LS

This is the 2000-model Lincoln LS sedan. The LS stands for Luxury Sport. The all-new LS platform is rear-wheel drive. Two engines will be available: a 3.0L 24-valve V-6 and a 3.9L 32-valve V-8. An all-new Advance Trac yaw control system is integrated into the anti-lock brake and all-speed traction control systems to maintain vehicle stability during extreme lateral weight transfer such as quick turns on curves or evasive maneuvering on slippery surfaces. Under these conditions, it automatically engages to correct for understeer and oversteer.

The Ford F-150 Super Crew

The 2000-model Ford F-150 SuperCrew was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. According to Ford, it is the first under-8,500 lb. GVW truck to offer four full-size doors and a full rear passenger compartment. Unlike the F-Series SuperCab model, the SuperCrew has four full-size doors separated by a B-pillar on each side, with inside and outside handles on each door. It is the same type of system currently available on the Super Duty F-Series Crew Cab trucks. Overall, the SuperCrew boasts 12 inches more cab space than the current SuperCab model and a five-and-a-half-foot pickup box vs. SuperCab’s six-and-a-half-foot box.

The Toyota Tundra

The Tundra is Toyota’s all-new, full-size pickup truck. It will be the first Toyota vehicle launched in the 2000-model year. It will be powered by a 4.7L V-8 engine or V-6 and will be built at Toyota’s new assembly built in Princeton, IN. This marks Toyota’s first entry into the full-size pickup market. The Tundra will be offered in a variety of configurations including two- or four-wheel drive, two-door regular cab with an eight-foot bed or the four-door Access Cab with a six-and-a-half-foot bed.

The Dodge Dakota Quad Cab

The 2000 Dakota Quad Cab offers four full-size doors with split-folding rear seats, combined with a cargo box more than five feet long. It is the first full four-door model in the mid-sized pickup class. A variety of powertrains will be offered to meet the varying needs of buyers.

The Ford Excursion

The Ford Excursion shares front-end sheet metal with the Super Duty F-Series pickup trucks Ford introduced in the 1999-model year. The Excursion has nine-passenger seating, 10,000-lb. towing capacity, and up to one-ton payload. It has optional four-wheel drive.

The Mazda MPV

Here’s a look at Mazda’s all-new MPV minivan which debuted at the New York auto show. It will be a 2000- model vehicle. The MPV features a new high-tech, low-maintenance 2.5-liter, DOHC, 24-valve V-6 engine with 170-horsepower and 160 ft-lb. of torque. A four-speed electronically-controlled automatic transaxle is standard.
