Safelite AutoGlass Director of Fleet Erin Gilchrist was named the 2019 Edward J. Bobit Professional Fleet Manager of the Year during a ceremony at the Automotive Fleet & Leasing Association's (AFLA) annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sept. 16.

Gilchrist, who was also nominated as a finalist for the award in 2018, was honored in part due to her successful implementation of telematics and driver safety/behavior management at Safelite AutoGlass. She has implemented other initiatives like idle reduction, engine calibration technology, CNG and electric hybrid vehicle piloting, significant light-weighting of the box truck fleet, which have together yielded more than $8 million in savings and reduced gallons consumption by more than 5 million.

She manages a fleet of approximately 8,505 vehicles and supervises a staff of four. She's been with Safelite AutoGlass for 13 years, and first transitioned to a fleet role after previously working in internal audit in a process analyst role.

“It’s so great to look out and see all of my friends and family. You have all brought me up in the industry, so thank you for that. I’m here because of you and I’m here because of my amazing team in Columbus, Ohio,” Gilchrist said.

The Fleet Manager of the Year award was created to recognize a proficient fleet manager who has demonstrated special business acumen in developing and executing key management policies in all areas. The award is sponsored by Wheels Inc., AFLA, and Automotive Fleet.

Eligible nominees are full-time commercial fleet managers who control a company-owned or leased fleet in excess of 100 cars and light trucks combined. Nominees are recognized nationally among their peers for their unique abilities and accomplishments.
