The days of GM's Cadillac division being in a perpetual state of flux may be ending, as the luxury brand under new leadership seems to be rolling out a lineup of more appealing and marketable vehicles. Yes, here come the SUVs.
Along with its paring back of its sedan lineup, which at times seemed to include duplicative models, Cadillac is introducing an onslaught of SUVs, including the latest 2019 XT4 that delivers a smooth driving experience and pleasing interior features. It follows the XT5, which arrived as a 2017 model, and the upcoming seven-passenger 2020 XT6.

Smooth-Driving Caddy
Cadillac has smartly paired a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four-cylinder engine (237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque) with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The pairing works will in a vehicle this size.
The XT4 powertrain is standard across its three trims of Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport, which helps simplify the decision-making process. There is value is simplifying. The front-wheel drivetrain is standard, and an all-wheel option adds $2,500. We tested the XT4 Premium Luxury with AWD, and we were impressed by the additional traction the system provided.
Cadillac models in recent years have come equipped with well-executed suspension systems that enable a smooth ride, and this one is no different. A Sport mode offers adaptive suspension that helps the vehicle navigate a wide range of road conditions.

The XT4's cabin generally provides a smart layout. Front seats can be adjusted eight ways and include a four-way lumbar control. Detailed seating controls are extremely helpful and help accommodate the variety of body types that buy vehicles.
Once you fire up the car, the bright, 8-inch touchscreen that displays Cadillac's CUE software provides an impressive focal point. The dash layout has plenty of buttons as well for those who prefer that approach to adjusting climate control. Silver two-way fan and temperature control buttons take a bit of jiggling to figure out and have been well placed on the console.

The XT4 retails for at least $35,790. Our test vehicle would retail for $48,685.

The 2020 model-year Bolt EV increases its driving range on a full charge to an EPA-estimated 259 miles, which is up by 21 miles over the previous model. In addition, there is an impressive array of driver-assistance technologies.
