The 2016 Conference of Automotive Remarketing (CAR) took place March 16-17 at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. Now in its 21st year, CAR delivered high-quality discussions and information on subjects ranging from automating the if-bid process to the merits of run position to a look forward to residual values for 2016-2017.

In addition, the nearly 700 attendees had plenty of opportunities to network and build their personal and professional connections.

Keynote addresses were from Basketball Hall of Famer and broadcaster Bill Walton and LeasePlan N.V.’s Wolfgang Reinhold. Walton focused on how teamwork, integrity, and tenacity shaped his career and his success. Reinhold expanded the attendees’ horizons by outlining the formation and function of the European Car Remarketing Association (CARA).

Industry veterans and legends were honored during separate award ceremonies. Bob Graham, who recently retired from ARI as vice president of vehicle remarketing, received the Industry Leadership Award. Levi McCoy, director of remarketing for LeasePlan USA, was named  2016 Consignor of the Year. Lynn Weaver, general manager of the Harrisburg Auto Auction, was named the 2016 Remarketer of the Year. Tom Webb of Cox Automotive and Tom Kontos of ADESA both received the Ed Bobit Industry Icon Award, which is presented jointly by the National Auto Auction Association (NAAA) and the International Automotive Remarketers Alliance (IARA). Looking ahead, the latest Auction Academy class graduated during CAR’s conclusion.

CAR is co-located with the IARA’s Spring Roundtable, which, this year, featured a keynote address by NAAA Hall of Famer Tony Moorby who discussed where the industry is headed. The IARA Circle of Excellence Award was presented to Bob Rauschenberg, EVP of sales, marketing, and special services at ADESA.

The 2017 Conference of Automotive Remarketing will be held March 1-2, 2017, at Paris Las Vegas Hotel, Las Vegas. For more information about CAR go to www.carconference.com.
