Volkswagen will offer the existing Tiguan compact SUV in 2018 as the Tiguan Limited alongside the new three-row Tiguan with a longer wheelbase, Volkswagen North America CEO Hinrich Woebcken announced at the New York International Auto Show.

Volkswagen and other automakers have been reshaping their vehicle portfolios to meet increased consumer demand for SUVs. The company is also rolling out the Atlas three-row, seven-passenger mid-size SUV for 2018.

Volkswagen will offer the Tiguan Limited "for the foreseeable future," company spokesman Pietro Zollino told USA Today.

The larger Tiguan will arrive as a significantly reworked vehicle that's been extended by 10.7 inches in overall length. It will offer an optional third row of seating and 57% additional cargo space.
