Porsche provided full details about its 2015 Macan compact SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show, as its executives even explained the name.
The compact SUV is named for the Indonesian word for tiger, a Porsche executive announced at a Wednesday press conference. With the Macan, the iconic sports car maker has added a second SUV to its lineup that includes its top-selling Cayenne luxury SUV.
The Macan will be offered in two configurations—the Macan S base model and Macan Turbo that will arrive at U.S. dealerships in late spring. The Macan S will retail for $49,900 while the Macan Turbo will retail for $72,300.
Porsche will offer the Macan with an active all-wheel drivetrain and two engine configurations. The Macan S is powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine that delivers 340 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque, while the Macan Turbo offers a 3.6 liters V-6 that produces 400 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.
The S can reach 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds; the Turbo reaches it in 4.6 seconds. Fuel economy is still unknown. Read full specs here.
