A Grand Jury report released on May 14, 2003, suggested that Ventura County do a better job of managing its fleet, reported the Ventura County Star in its May 15, 2003 edition. According to Grand Jury findings, the county General Services Agency charges more for vehicle maintenance than private vendors, which charge anywhere from 15 to 45 percent less than the county. The report suggested that Ventura County compare its vehicle maintenance costs with those of surrounding counties that use private vendors, including San Bernardino and Los Angeles.
