Kia Motors America is recalling 86,880 2014 model-year Kia Forte vehicles because their cooling fans might overheat and melt, presenting a fire risk, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
For vehicles produced from Dec. 5, 2012, to Jan. 27, 2014, dealers will replace the cooling fan resistor and multi-fuse unit. For vehicles produced from Jan. 28, 2014, to April 17, 2014, dealers will replace the multi-fuse unit only, NHTSA said. Additionally, dealers will update the engine control unit software in vehicles with a 1.8L engine.
The recall is expected to begin Feb. 24. Kia Forte owners can reach Kia customer service at (800) 333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC113.
