Nissan North America is recalling 468,815 Rogue compact SUVs from the 2008-2013 model years because exposure to road salt during winter might lead to an electrical short in the harness connector, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

The problem arises if a mixture of snow, water and salt seeps through the carpet on the driver-side floor near the harness connector. The potential for an electrical short poses a fire risk, NHTSA said.

The recall affects Rogue vehicles manufactured from March 7, 2007, to Nov. 26, 2013, and 2014 Nissan Rogue Select vehicles manufactured from Sept. 23, 2013, to July 2, 2014.

Nissan dealers will inspect the kick panel wiring harness connector and, if necessary, install a new harness connector and waterproof seal. There will be no charge for this service.

Vehicle owners can reach Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
