Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling 37,145 2007-2009 model-year Outlander mid-size SUVs because the brake light switch may malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

The recall covers vehicles manufactured from Dec. 15, 2006, to Oct. 31, 2007, and April 16, 2008, to Aug. 22, 2009.

Mitsubishi dealers will replace the brake light switch, free of charge. The recall is already under way. Owners can reach Mitsubishi customer service at (888) 648-7820.

Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-14-010. This recall is an expansion of a previous one.
