WASHINGTON - Volkswagen AG is recalling 340,000 passenger cars in the United States because the headlights failed to comply with federal safety standards, according to the Associated Press.

The recall includes 2005-08 Jettas and 2006-08 Rabbit, GTI and R32 passenger cars. No crashes have been linked to the issue, a company spokesman said. Some of the headlamps may be missing required caps in the sockets of the low beam horizontal and vertical aiming screws, VW said.
