Nissan Develops Gas Pedal Safety Feature
– A new safety feature is now being developed by Nissan Motor Co. The feature causes a car’s gas pedal to lift by itself to alert the driver of a possible collision, according to the Associated Press. That new technology uses radar sensors and a computer system to estimate a car’s speed and the distance away from the vehicle in front of it.If the system senses a possible head-on crash, the gas pedal automatically rises against the driver’s foot as a signal to step on the brake. According to the report, if sensors detect a possible collision ahead, the brake automatically kicks in when the driver lifts his or her foot off the gas.The feature may be offered in Japan in about two or three years. Nissan also plans a rollout sometime in the future in the United States and Europe.
