Ford Motor Co. CEO Bill Ford says he would like to make diesel engines, historically a marginal niche market in the United States, part of his quest to improve the fuel economy of his company's pickups and sport/utility vehicles, according to USA Today. The automaker has acknowledged it is developing a diesel-powered Focus car for the United States, and sources close to the company say they have seen plans for a V-6 diesel engine intended for the F Series light-duty pickup by 2005, according to USA Today. That engine could end up in SUVs, industry analysts say.
