Robert Davis, former NAFA president from 1981-1983, died in his sleep on Jan 7, 1999, at his home in St. Mary's, WV. After working for Chrysler in the Pittsburgh area, Davis became fleet manager for Consolidated Natural Gas Transmission Co. He retired from Consolidated Gas Transmission in the late 1980s.

Davis was an active member of NAFA for many years. He was one of the founders of the Greater Pittsburg Chapter, and served in several national positions. During his term as president, fleet managers were adjusting to the switch to smaller cars following the oil embargo. Under his leadership, NAFA's governance structure was expanded, with the creation of the Board of Delegates, consisting originally of Chapter Chairs (and now Committee Chairs) to advise the NAFA Board of Trustees. Davis is survived by his wife Joanne, his son Mark, and two grandchildren.
