Volkswagen has announced the launch of its fully electric ID3 that will be showcased at 2019 IAA Frankfurt Auto Show, the first model from VW’s new MEB electric vehicle product line.
All ID3 1 ST models feature a battery variant that provides a usable energy content of 58 kWh. The series production version will also offer a smaller battery option with an energy content of 45 kWh and a range up to 330 kilometers and a larger battery with an energy content of 77 kWh and a maximum range of 550 kilometers (about 340 miles).
The ID3 is capable of fast charging at an output of 100 kW, within 30 minutes to cover a range of around 290 kilometers.
The ID3's external dimensions are comparable to the VW Golf.
Volkswagen will offer a guarantee of eight years or 160,000 kilometers on ID.3 batteries. Dubbed "an electric car the masses," the entry price will start under 30,000 euros in Germany.
North American buyers shouldn’t get excited — while the ID3 will go on sale in Germany in the middle of 2020, Volkswagen has no plans to sell the vehicle in North America.
