Volkswagen Group Australia has implemented the voluntary recall program to correct the vehicles affected by emissions issues. The program in Australia will begin with a recall of 8,694 Amarok utes to have their diesel engine emissions-test cheat software removed
Amarok Customers who were affected were notified on Feb. 29, 2016, via e-mail and letter.

The software upgrade will be performed by a VW dealer technician at no cost to the customer. It is expected that the update will take under one-half-hour to complete.

Volkswagen Group Australia assured customers that the implementation of the update will not lead to a deterioration of the fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions, engine performance, torque and vehicle acoustics and all vehicle values related to type approval remain unchanged; and continue to outperform the minimum emissions requirements of both Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards.

The models affected were 1.6L or 2.0L four-cylinder TDI VW models manufactured between 2008 and 2015. In addition to Amarok models, other models affected were: Passat, Jetta, Polo, Golf, Tiguan, Caddy, and Eos models with the 2.0-litre EA189. Owners with the 1.6L diesel engines will be contacted later this year in a separate recall, according to the company.
