Volvo to Advertise on Microsoft’s MSN Internet Unit
In a marketing deal with Microsoft Corp.’s MSN Internet unit, Ford Motor Co.’s Volvo unit, which last year ran an online campaign on MSN rival AOL Time Warner Inc.’s America Online service, will advertise on MSN for 15 months, including ads for the debut of its XC90 sport/utility vehicle, the companies said, according to a Reuters report. Apart from the usual banner-style ads on the MSN family of Web sites, MSN would also create a virtual Volvo showroom and a “digital garage” community site for Volvo owners to get the latest information about their cars, MSN Vice President Rich Bray told Reuters in an interview. Visitors can also download a Volvo-themed MSN Explorer Web browser and receive three free months of MSN Internet access for free, Bray said. MSN also has online marketing deals with Japanese carmakers Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor.
