If your company’s seat belt requirement is meeting resistance from some employees, click here to download National Safety Council advice on how to respond to their questions and objections.
You also may want to pass along these safety guidelines, provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, on proper use of seat belts:
Place the shoulder belt across the middle of your chest and away from your neck.
Adjust the lap belt across your hips below your stomach.
Never put the shoulder belt behind your back or under an arm.
Remember, air bags are designed to work with seat belts, not replace them. In fact, if you don’t wear your seat belt, you could be thrown into a rapidly opening frontal air bag. A movement of such force could injure or even kill you.
If your vehicle’s seat belts don’t seem to be a good fit for you, discuss the matter with your fleet manager. There’s likely a simple solution, such as the use of seat belt extenders or adjusters.
