Purolator Partners With Hydrogenics in their “Greening the Fleet” Program
Purolator Courier Ltd., Canada's leading courier company, announced on Feb. 26 that it has contracted Hydrogenics Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of hydrogen and fuel cell systems, to develop and deploy a fuel cell hybrid delivery van and an on-site hydrogen refueling system as part of their "Greening the Fleet" initiative to explore the use of clean transportation technologies.
Purolator Courier Ltd., Canada's leading courier company, announced on Feb. 26 that it has contracted Hydrogenics Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of hydrogen and fuel cell systems, to develop and deploy a fuel cell hybrid delivery van and an on-site hydrogen refueling system as part of their "Greening the Fleet" initiative to explore the use of clean transportation technologies. In this two-year initiative, Purolator is contracting Hydrogenics to develop and deploy a Fuel Cell Hybrid Electric Vehicle (FCHEV) where the fuel cell/battery electric propulsion system will be integrated into a Hybrid-Electric Vehicle (HEV) platform produced by Azure Dynamics and used in Purolator's delivery fleet. The other key element of the project is the development and commissioning of a hydrogen generation and refueling system at one of Purolator's depots in the Greater Toronto Area, using Hydrogenics PEM electrolysis technology, which can generate hydrogen from water using renewable energy. This refueling station will potentially become one part in Toronto's emerging hydrogen refueling infrastructure. The initiative is being partially funded through the Canadian Transportation Fuel Cell Alliance (CTFCA), a $23-million Cdn. partnership initiative with the Government of Canada to demonstrate and evaluate various fuelling options for fuel-cell vehicles in Canada.
