Fleets operating in New York City may soon have to pay heftier fines for certain parking infractions in the city, including double parking and blocking an intersection, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

Changes to reduced fines is part of a proposed modification to a program that discounts parking summonses, and is aimed at solving congestion and increasing revenue for the city, according to Land Line Magazine. 

This will affect approximately 2,600 commercial vehicle operators, according to the Wall Street Journal. The report also found that among the likely changes being made include charging a $115 fine for obstructing an intersection, and a $25 fine for violating street cleaning parking rules.

The alteration of the program, which was introduced 15 years ago, is expected to begin in November and looks to raise ticket revenues by $17 million. 

In January, NYC piloted a program which banned curbside loading and unloading on both sides of the street in certain areas during peak hours, from 7 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.

New York City’s Department of Finance offers stipulated fine and commercial abatement programs, which fleets can apply for online.
