Nissan Motor Co. will debut its Nissan Safety Shield 360, a suite of six advanced active safety and driver-assist technologies, on its sixth-generation 2019 Altima and 2019 Rogue this fall.

Safety Suite 360 — the latest component of Nissan's Intelligent Mobility initiative — was designed to improve safety and the overall driving experience, according to the automaker.

The suite of advanced driver-assist systems is comprised of automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, adaptive headlights (High Beam Assist), and rear automatic braking.

Data indicates that several of these types of technologies can help reduce collisions and enhance safety. For example, according to the Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), cross traffic alert systems reduce crashes by 22%.

Moreover, the combination of rearview cameras and sensors can lower collision rates by 42%, notes the institute. Adding rear emergency braking reduces backing accidents by as much as 78% compared to vehicles that are not equipped with any of these technologies.

The Nissan Safety Shield 360 will be standard across its lineup by 2021, according to Nissan. In 2017, Nissan sold 1.59 million vehicles in the U.S.
