The National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) and the American Automotive Leasing Association (AALA) have filed a joint “friend of the court” brief in the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to challenge efforts by a California agency to limit the types of vehicles fleets could acquire. California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is trying to put new restrictions on the types of vehicles that government agencies and some private fleets may acquire. It is not known when the court will decide the matter. NAFA said it will not enter the debate on the environmental qualities of diesel fuel, but will focus on the effort by some governments to create new fleet mandates. Among the participants in the litigation are the Engine Manufacturers’ Association, Western States Petroleum Association, Natural Resource Defense Council, SCAQMD, and others.
