A nationwide group of medical professionals recently commended GM for offering automatic crash notification (ACN) systems with OnStar. The devices alert emergency responders when airbags are deployed, speeding response to an accident and saving time. The first hour after a crash, known as the “golden hour” in medical circles, is the most critical time for victims. When care is administered during this period, survival rates improve and permanent injury is less likely to occur. “Telematics technologies like [OnStar] give the automotive, medical and emergency communities the opportunity to dramatically improve public safety,” stated a letter signed by several prominent medical doctors from various practices across the country.
