Lordstown Motors has been busy in 2022, working hard to get ready to sell its line of electric pickup trucks. To sell a truck to the public, an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) must complete a complicated series of tests, certifications, and approval processes.

And as of Nov. 29, 2002, Lordstown has knocked out the following:

Fleet Fact: What is homologation? It's the granting of approval by an official authority.

  • Lordstown Endurance full-size battery-electric pickup truck has achieved full homologation, a key condition to start sales.

  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) certification has been received.

  • Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) crash and non-crash testing successfully completed.

  • First customer vehicles leaving the Foxconn EV Ohio plant for delivery.

  • Endurance advanced to finalist in the North American Truck of the Year competition.

According to Lordstown Motors, as disclosed earlier, production volume will ramp slowly and accelerate as supply chain constraints issues are resolved.

“I am very proud of the Lordstown Motors and Foxconn EV Ohio team for their hard work, grit, and tenacity in achieving this milestone. We are very excited to start delivering vehicles to our commercial fleet customers. The Endurance will provide benefits to customers that use their vehicles for work. It optimizes key attributes of traction and maneuverability - with our in-wheel hub motors, safety - with our five-star crash performance, and value in the segment,” said Edward Hightower, Lordstown CEO and president.

While it was a bit of a bumpy ride to get here, in October 2022, Lordstown Motors began production of the electric Endurance pickup truck. The first two pickup trucks rolled off the line on September 29, 2022. At the start of production, Lordstown noted this caveat: “subject to raising sufficient capital.” The company anticipates ending 2022 with approximately $110 million in cash and continues to explore opportunities for capital raising alternatives.

Lordstown is known for having bought GM's Lordstown, Ohio plant and went public in the third quarter of 2020 and crossing the 40,000 pre-order threshold in September of 2020 and 100,00 pre-orders by January of 2021. Auto Truck Group took interest in early 2021, partnering with the automaker to help fleets integrate the all-electric pickup truck into vocational fleet operations.
