Hyundai Beefing Up Sedan Production in Alabama
Hyundai will build a $388 million engine plant in Montgomery, Ala., that will support production of new models of the Sonata and Elantra sedans. The plant is expected to open by the middle of 2019, the company has announced.

Hyundai will build a $388 million engine plant in Montgomery, Ala., that will support production of new models of the Sonata and Elantra sedans. The plant is expected to open by the middle of 2019, the company has announced.
Gov. Kay Ivey joined Dong Ryeol Choi, president and chief executive of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, to announce the new plant at an event in the state. The investment will create 50 new jobs.
The plant will support production of Hyundai's next-generation engine that will require new technologies and components during the assembly process. The investment will go toward equipment for the engine head machining plant and updating technology in the existing engine plant.
Hyundai hopes to complete construction of the 260,000-square-foot engine head machining plant by November at a cost of $40 million.
