GM Upgrades StabiliTrack, Broadens Availability on Trucks

The StabiliTrack stability enhancement system will be available on more vehicles and in a more sensitive form. General Motors announced that the system will be made available on Chevrolet and GMC full-size SUVs fitted with the 5.3L V-8 engine. Some combinations of 2-wheel-drive, 4X4, or all-wheel-drive models will use a more sensitive four-channel version of the StabiliTrack system, rather than the current two-channel system. StabiliTrack was first introduced on three Cadillac models in 1997 and has since been improved and expanded through GM models. The company has delivered more than 600,000 vehicles equipped with the system to this date. The new four-channel system works in conjunction with the ABS ant-ilock brake system and the traction control system to selectively apply any of the four wheel brakes to help the driver deal with potentially dangerous handling situations.
