GM Truck Sales for May Reach All-Time High
General Motors' May sales reached an all-time high for GM full-size trucks (pickups and utilities), which climbed 24 percent in total, with all eight individual models in those segments posting double-digit gains. Separately, full-size pickup sales rose 17 percent and full-size utility sales were up 38 percent. In May, GM surpassed its nearest industry competitor by more than 14,000 units of full-size pickup truck sales. For the first five months of the year, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra led by more than 27,000 units. GM's full-size utility sales burgeoned during the first five months of this year. In May alone, GM took a 31,000-unit lead in the industry with sales of the Chevy Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL Cadillac Escalade and HUMMER. For the CYTD period, the gap widened to a sales lead of well more than 100,000 units.
