GM to Expand Full-Size Pickup Production at Pontiac Plant
General Motors has announced plans to expand production of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups at its Pontiac, MI, truck assembly plant.
General Motors has announced plans to expand production of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups at its Pontiac, MI, truck assembly plant. The Pontiac plant will add a third shift of production later this fall. The added capacity at Pontiac is expected to increase the plant’s production by more than 30 percent. Pontiac Assembly will have the capacity to build approximately 100,000 more full-size pickups per year than are currently produced on two shifts of production. In 2001, Pontiac built more than 208,500 full-size pickups. “Market demand is driving GM to expand production of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra — two cornerstone products behind GM’s marketplace resurgence,” said Gary Cowger, president of GM North America.
