GM Among Top Three Automakers in J.D. Power Survey
General Motors has captured a spot among the top three automakers in a J.D. Power survey, the USA Today reported. GM has passed Nissan to rank third behind Toyota and Honda, which rank first and second, respectively. The survey is an interim report to J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Survey (IQS), which is released each May. It is based on surveys of new-car buyers about problems in the first 90 days of ownership. It’s the first time GM has been ranked in the top three since the IQS study was conducted 15 years ago, according to Tom Kowaleski, GM spokesman. GM was helped by its Saturn division, which rose to No. 4 from No. 13 among brands. Ford Motor Co., beset with quality problems for two years, climbed out of last place, while both DaimlerChrysler and Volkswagen fell. German companies also lost ground. BMW dropped from No. 4 to No. 13, and Mercedes-Benz fell from No. 10 to No. 15. BMW said its ranking dropped due to two recalls.
