Boulder Electric Vehicle, a designer, developer, and manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty electric trucks and vans, and Coritech Services, a provider of industrial software solutions, have demonstrated bi-directional DC fast charging, making Boulder Electric Vehicle (EV) the 1st electric truck company ever to successfully implement Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) charging.

Boulder EV and Coritech Services highlighted the Boulder EV’s 100 percent electric flatbed utility truck, equipped with a 72-kWh lithium battery pack and a Coritech 60-kW DC Fast Charger System at the Alternative Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Washington DC, June 24-27. Current power charges demonstrate 150 amps during charge or discharge on the 360V nominal battery pack.

“We now have a solution ready for immediate deployment that will allow 50 electric trucks to offer 3 megawatts of energy on tap,” said Carter Brown, chief executive officer of Boulder Electric Vehicle.

The system developed has been based on the interface specification for the Smart Power Infrastructure Demonstration for Energy Reliability and Security (SPIDERS) Phase II program and was implemented, developed, and finalized independently by Boulder Electric Vehicle and Coritech Services.

Southwest Research Institute, a non-profit research and development test and evaluation laboratory, will be supplying the grid aggregation service between the Coritech electric vehicle supply equipment and the grid. The companies are working toward a demonstration late summer 2013 at Fort Carson. This demonstrated solution supports a larger vision of the Department of Defense in the mass scale deployment of electric vehicles.
