FCA US will eventually phase out its Dodge Grand Caravan minivan, as the company focuses on its revamp of the Chrysler Town & Country for 2016 and existing Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City vans.
The company has confirmed the phase-out of the Grand Caravan but has not announced a date. FCA US is now selling the 2016-MY Grand Caravan, which is available to fleets.
"While we've announced the Grand Caravan will eventually be the minivan that goes away, we're not going into more detail at this time," said Angela Bianchi, an FCA US spokesperson.
To meet the upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Economy regulations of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, FCA US is planning to roll out gasoline-electric hybrids across its model range, and will introduce a plug-in hybrid model of the Town & Country for 2016.
The Grand Caravan has been a fleet staple among companies and government agencies. In 2013, commercial fleets added 17,118 Caravan and Grand Caravan vehicles. Government fleets added 8,023 that year.
FCA has phased out the cargo version of the Grand Caravan, the Ram C/V Tradesman, and replaced it with the ProMaster City compact cargo van.
