Chrysler to Recall Dodge Ram Trucks, Journey

WASHINGTON - Chrysler Group LLC is issuing three major recalls involving Dodge Ram trucks and the Dodge Journey. All three recalls are expected to get under way in February.
The first safety recall covers 22,274 model-year 2008-2011 Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500 trucks and concerns a potential loss-of-steering risk.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these vehicles may experience a weakening and fracture of the left ball stud on the tie rod, resulting in the potential for loss of steering. Chrysler will notify truck owners of the recall and replace the left outer tie rod free of charge.
Chrysler's second safety recall covers 65,180 MY 2009 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured from Nov. 1, 2007 through Sept. 7, 2008. The wires within the front-door wire harnesses may fatigue and break, which could interrupt the circuits for the side-impact sensors. This could result in airbag warning lamp illumination and loss of side crash sensing capability, NHTSA said. In the event of a crash, the side airbag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injuries. Chrysler will notify owners and replace the left- and right-door wiring harnesses free of charge.
The third recall covers 56,611 MY 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks manufactured from September 2009 through December 2010. Some of these trucks may experience a noise -- such as a growl or grind -- coming from the rear axle bearing that could eventually seize. A failure of the bearing could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will make the necessary repairs free of charge.
