Chevrolet Supports U.S. Military with New 2001 Models for Navy Personnel
Chevrolet has joined with NavyAutosource, a division of Overseas Military Sales Corp. (OMSC) and General Motors’ authorized distributor to the U.S. Military, to bring the U.S. Navy a worldwide sales promotion. To kick it off, Chevrolet and NavyAutosource have displayed Trackers at nearly every overseas U.S. military installation. For the promotion, members of the U.S. military returning home from overseas assignments will take delivery of between 600 and 700 vehicles this year, up from 120 last year. Tracker sales have been on the rise since the redesigned model was released under the Chevy Truck nameplate in 1999, and achieved record sales for the 2000 calendar and model years. Also part of the promotion was a contest for the military where entrants could win a new Chevy Tracker. The contest has been promoted in Stars and Stripes and with banners and posters in overseas locations worldwide. The latest winner will receive a brand new Tracker in port in San Diego on Feb. 8. Chevrolet is also leveraging a strong partnership with GT Bikes to strengthen the promotion. To show its support for the Navy, both Chevy and GT Bikes will stage a GT Airshow for the returning aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln. To round out the activities, an all new V-6 powered Tracker ZR2 show truck, with a sporty, rugged appearance package, will ride on the deck of the carrier for its journey to the naval base in Everett, WA. The two Trackers that were won in the contests will also be part of the on board display. Tracker sales (48,809) for the 2000-model year made a greater percentage gain (50 percent) than any other vehicle in the small SUV segment, giving Tracker the best model year sales in its history.
