Boulder Electric Vehicle Demonstrates Vehicle-to-Grid Charging Across the Nation
The vehicle-to-grid (V2G) electric trucks are capable of transferring 60 kilowatts of power, going both into the vehicle and coming out of the vehicle.

Developer of bi-directional direct current (DC) fast charging technology, Boulder Electric Vehicle (BEV), has successfully demonstrated its vehicle-to-grid (V2G), all-electric trucks in three separate locations including Michigan, Colorado, and California. BEV said this makes it one of two electric truck manufacturers in the world to demonstrate working V2G charging at 60 kilowatts of power. BEV and electric vehicle supply equipment partner Coritech Services will be providing demonstrations of a bi-directional DC charger and one of the company's three EV trucks to private utility company fleets beginning this fall, the company said.

The first full powered success transpired in Royal Oak, Mich., on June 14, 2013. With 60 kilowatts of power going in and coming out of the vehicles, BEV demonstrated its V2G bi-directional charging.
The second major milestone came on July 25 in Fort Carson, Colo. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the Smart Power Infrastructure Demonstration for Energy Reliability and Security (SPIDERS) project signed off on verifying full charge and discharge of the vehicle at 60 kilowatts of power.
The third demonstration took place at BEV's Los Angeles plant on Aug. 13. The California Energy Commission awarded BEV a $3 million grant from its Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program to support the opening of BEV's second plant, located in Los Angeles.
