The 2015 bi-fuel Chevrolet Impala will start at $38,210 when it goes on sale later this year as the first full-size sedan produced by a major automaker for the North America market.
The bi-fuel Impala's starting price includes a $825 destination charge and excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees and operational equipment.
General Motors will ship the vehicle to dealers in the LS base trim and LT higher-equipped trim.
The bi-fuel Impala is powered by a 3.6L hardened engine with hardened valves and valve seats for improved wear resistance and durability with the CNG fuel system. The CNG tank offers the equivalent capacity of 7.8 gallons of gasoline as well as approximately 150 city miles of range, according to GM. With gasoline and CNG combined, the vehicle should deliver a range of 500 city miles. EPA ratings have not been finalized.
The bi-fuel Impala offers a significant fuel economy savings over gasoline, which reached $3.684 for the week ending May 5. Compressed natural gas retails for about $1.25 per equivalent gallon.
GM will build the bi-fuel Impala at its Oshawa, Ontario, plant in Canada.
