Avis is Moving Headquarters to New Jersey
Avis, the nation's second-largest car rental agency is moving its headquarters to New Jersey, where industry leader Hertz Corp. is already based. Avis, known for its “We try harder” advertising slogan in the 1970s, is in the process of moving from Garden City, Long Island, to Parsippany, NJ. The new home is in the campus of Cendant Corp., a travel conglomerate that became the sole owner of Avis in March. Cendant, which had owned a stake in Avis Group Holdings since 1996, paid $937 million, for the rest of the company earlier this year. Cendant already owned hotel brand names including Travelodge, Days Inn and Ramada. Last week, it bought the Galileo reservations system, which is used by travel agents.
