Audi’s Updated MMI Infotainment System to Debut in Audi Q5

AUBURN HILLS, MI - Automotive multimedia technology company Harman/Becker revealed this week that the latest version of its Multi Media Interface (MMI) 3G Infotainment System will debut this fall in the 2009 Audi Q5 SUV.

AUBURN HILLS, MI - Automotive multimedia technology company Harman/Becker revealed this week that the latest version of its Multi Media Interface (MMI) 3G Infotainment System will debut this fall in the 2009 Audi Q5 SUV, according to www.motortrend.com. The two companies have collaborated on multiple vehicle systems since early 1989 and are looking to begin a new age of dynamic in-car multimedia with the MMI 3G.


Users will be able to select various points of interest on the widescreen navigation monitor that reproduces true-to-scale three dimensional terrain, thanks in large part to a high speed NVIDIAr graphics card. In addition, the system boasts photorealistic depictions of points of interest, offers a bird’s-eye view of more-distant destinations, and also has an automatic close-up zoom feature that can be used at busy intersections. The navigation system has maps of 44 European countries, the continental United States and Canada pre-programmed into its onboard hard drive. All mapping functions can be can be navigated via voice commands.

Connectivity features include Bluetooth and IPod capability, as well as USB media storage units. The compact premium Q5 SUV is set to make its debut this fall across Europe and will go on sale in the North American market at the beginning 2009. Like its A4/A5 siblings, the SUV has been built to accommodate multiple powertrains ranging from inline-four cylinders to big V-8s. Models coming to the United States will initially employ a 286 horsepower 3.2L direct-injection V-6 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, , according to www.motortrend.com. In addition to the Q5, it is expected Audi will offer the Harman/Becker MMI Infotainment System will be rolled-out on select premium trim models initially, including the upcoming 2010 A7 four-door coupe.
