American Taxi Selects AirIQ Vehicle Location Technology
American Taxi has selected AirIQ Inc., a wireless application service provider specializing in the location and management of fleet vehicles, to manage its taxi fleet in a deal valued at Canadian $1.05 million. Costa Mesa, CA-based American Taxi is a customer of eDispatch, a provider of mobile workforce management solutions that has entered into an agreement to merge with AirIQ. Since deploying the eDispatch mobile workforce management system, American Taxi has re-duced its communications costs by 44 per cent, improved driver productivity by 25 per cent, and substantially reduced driver turnover. AirIQ’s vehicle location technology will be installed across American Taxi’s entire fleet, which is expected to grow by 80 additional licenses from the city of Anaheim, CA. Anaheim is the first mu-nicipality in the U.S. to require GPS (global positioning system) tracking of taxis as a condition of receiving new taxi licenses. American Taxi seeks to expand its business in southern California, and Anaheim, as the home of Disneyland, is a growth area for the company. American Taxi is the first “all clean air” taxi company in the U.S., with its entire fleet fueled by natural gas. As an “all clean air” taxi company, American Taxi won the contract to become the ex-clusive taxi service provider at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA. On Aug. 1, 2001, AirIQ merged with eDispatch.com Wireless Data Inc.
