Hyundai Motor Co. has unveiled an EV-derived, futuristic design for its new-generation Kona subcompact SUV.

The upscaled model will be available in four variants, including all-electric (EV), hybrid electric (HEV), internal combustion engine (ICE), and sporty N Line.

The Kona started with the EV variant design, which was then adapted for the ICE, HEV, and N Line models. The four variants will feature tech-centric design and, despite the shared architecture, distinctive futuristic styling.

The all-new model is almost 6 inches longer than the previous generation, based on the EV variant. It also increased 2.3 inches in wheelbase length. In addition, the all-new Kona’s interior is more spacious and features dual 12.3-inch-wide displays and ambient lighting.

Hyundai said more details will be unveiled in the coming months.

Currently, Korean vehicle brands are ineligible to qualify for the $7,500 tax credit in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Only EVs assembled in North America are qualified. Since Hyundai’s EVs are imported into the U.S., they are ineligible under the IRA.
