Nationwide field studies show that 80 percent of children in safety seats are not buckled in properly. Most parents are not even aware of this epidemic. According to a survey by the Chrysler Group, 97 percent of parents incorrectly believe that they always properly use and install their child safety seats. Parents can take advantage of events offered by safety seat inspectors from the Chrysler Group’s Fit for a Kid program and police officers, who also are certified inspectors. Inspectors show parents how to keep their kids safe in motor vehicles, educate them on child safety seat restraints that are right for their children, and how to use those restraints correctly.
