For people fortunate enough to have a short commute to work and the ability to charge the vehicle at their homes every night, the 2019 Range Rover Sport PHEV offers an environmentally conscious way of getting to and from work.

With a starting MSRP of $79,895, it's much more likely to find its way into a fleet executive's driveway.
And, there are a couple reasons why a fleet executive with a vehicle allowance might consider this vehicle.
It's a Range Rover, so it can handle off-road environment, and while a fleet executive might off-road in this vehicle very much, it's capability to handle rugged terrain, means that it will be able to handle pretty much any road a fleet executive may drive through.
It's a large vehicle so it could transport up to five clients or colleagues comfortably. There's a fair amount of cargo space with the seats folded up, 27.5 cubic feet, and even more with the seats folded down, 59.5 cubic feet.
If the fleet executive's commute falls below 20 miles, then it means that he or she would be able to complete that commute without a drop of gasoline. The 2019 Range Rover Sport PHEV features a 13kWh capacity battery that provides up to 29 miles of pure-electric range.
After testing, we found that figure to be closer to 20 miles in the moderately warm environment of Southern California during the spring/summer season.
Taking advantage of the pure-electric drive capability also offers another advantage on top of reducing fuel cost, and its silence. Thanks to the vehicle's pure-electric drive capability the Range Rover Sport drives nearly silently. However, that does change when the battery runs outs of juice and switches to the gasoline engine.
The Range Rover Sport PHEV's 2.0L 296 hp engine is fairly loud, especially during the transition from electric to gasoline engine. And, that transition does happen fairly often.
During testing, we found that while the battery covered a commute, it didn't really cover an extra trip to the grocery store, or an impromptu meeting in a different part of town. Finding a charging station near the areas we found ourselves at wasn't always guaranteed, and even in the instances that we did, charge time was often an issue.
The 2019 Range Rover Sport PHEV doesn't feature DC fast charging capabilities, so it takes about 3 hours to gain a full charge over 32 amp AC charging.
But, thankfully even when the vehicle did run out of charge, there was a full tank of gas available to use.
So, for people fortunate enough to have a short commute to work and the ability to charge the vehicle at their homes every night, the 2019 Range Rover Sport PHEV offers an environmentally conscious way of getting to and from work. It also gives that person the ability to take a long trip without worrying about charging networks thanks to its gasoline engine.
