Available in regular- and extended-length models, Ford’s E-Series Wagons and Vans have been refreshed for the 2008-model year. The manufacturer has expanded the optional AdvanceTrac traction control system to its regular-length E-350 Wagon models with the 5.4L V-8 engine. Roll Stability Control is standard equipment on about 85 percent of the company’s passenger wagons. In addition, the reverse sensing system is now available with rear step or contour bumpers on E-Series Wagon and Vans.

The E-Series models comprise a Commercial Van; a Recreational Van; an XL, XLT, and Chateau Wagon; and a Cutaway and Stripped Chassis (both offer three wheelbases). With 60/40 swing-out side doors and 236 cubic ft. of rear cargo room, E-Series Vans are designed for work, while the Wagon offers six seating configurations, accommodating from seven to 15 occupants.

Upgraded Van Components

Perhaps one of the E-Series’most noticeable improvements for 2008 is its revitalized front end featuring a new grille and front fascia. “The E-Series is consistent with Ford Super Duty’s ‘tough truck’ mentality,” said Jim Michon, Ford’s fleet truck marketing manager.

Other improvements for the 2008-MY include new valve technology, a tire pressure monitoring system, optional anti-theft keyless entry, an upgraded steering system, and fine-tuned suspension and shocks for better ride. New brakes, rotors, and calipers offer enhanced functionality and stopping distance, as well as increased wear, GVW, and payload capacities.

Powertrain & Towing Capacity

When properly equipped, the E-150 Van can tow up to 7,500 lbs., the E-150 Wagon up to 7,100 lbs., and the E-350 Super Duty and Super Duty Extended Wagon up to 10,000 lbs. each. An available Class II/III/IV Trailer Tow Package includes an electric brake controller with tap-in capability, a seven-pin trailer wiring harness with bumper bracket, and a relay system for backup and running lights.

Carryover features from 2007 model include standard electronic throttle control and an engine oil cooler. The E-250 Cutaway with a 4.6L V-8, electronically controlled 4R75E transmission and midship fuel tank is part of the E-Series lineup.

Numerous Cargo Options

The insulated EconoCargo System efficiently retains heat and cold and is designed to help protect cargo. The Masterack Work-Bin System includes fully installed steel shelving, drawers, and cabinets, and a full-width security partition providing lockable access to the unit from the passenger compartment. QuietFlex Racks and Bins System provide quiet and flexible storage. EconoCargo, Masterack, and QuietFlex systems are available at no extra charge.

Fleet sales account for about 70% of total unit sales, according to Ford. The E-Series will be available in August.
