The City of Los Angeles has leased a Honda FCX for everyday use in the its fleet. The city will lease the fuel cell vehicle for two years at $500 per month, with four more FCX models to be delivered in 2003. Honda delivered the vehicle on Dec. 2 in a ceremony that included Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn and Honda president and CEO Hiroyuki Yoshino.

Honda has contracted with Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., which has operations in nearby El Segundo, CA, to provide the hydrogen fuel and refueling infrastructure.

Both the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have certified the Honda FCX as a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV). The FCX uses hydrogen supplied to a fuel cell stack to generate the electricity that powers its motor. Its only exhaust is water vapor.
