Subaru will begin selling its 2019 Ascent three-row SUV — the largest vehicle the crossover specialist has ever built — for at least $32,970 this summer, the company announced.

The Ascent arrives with three rows and a choice of seven- or eight-passenger versions depending on whether the second row is a bench or captain's chairs.

All models are equipped with a 2.4-liter Boxer engine that delivers power (260 horsepower) via a continuously variable transmission to an all-wheel drivetrain. The EyeSight driver assist technology package — that includes adaptive cruise control and automatic frontal braking — is also standard.

The 2019 Ascent will be rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Subaru will offer the vehicle in four trim grades, including base, Premium, Limited, and Touring. The base Ascent seats eight passengers and retails for $31,995 plus a $975 delivery charge ($1,125 for Alaska). The Premium and Limited models offer either seating configuration, while the Touring offers only captain's chairs.

Several option packages will be offered, including Code 12 with power rear gate, keyless access, an auto-dimming mirror, and reverse automatic braking; Code 14 with those features plus 20-inch wheels, power moonroof, navigation, and a cargo area cover; and Code 23 with a Harman Kardon premium audio system, power moonroof, navigation, and a cargo area cover.

The vehicle should be able to achieve 27 miles per gallon on the highway, 21 mpg in city driving, and 23 mpg combined. When equipped with 20-inch wheels, it loses 1 mpg in each cycle.
